What a great site! I discovered the day after I purchased my new phone, a Nokia 6131.

I was looking for a software that allowed me to make a back up of my contacts. (Note: at that moment I didn’t have Nokia PC Suite, which it does do indeed the same, although the copy resides on a PC).

So, I entered the magic words into Google: “web 2.0+mobile+backup contacts” and in 4th or 5th place came: Zyb.

Zyb is a website that allows you to back up and manage your contacts, as well your calendar and events.

It has a very nice UI (with AJAX and all those web2.0 things), and it’s very simple to set up with your phone.

First of all, you must be sure that your device is one of the 200 mobiles supported by Zyb (essentially, you’ll need a phone with a SyncML module which indeed needs a GPRS or EDGE connection). If it is, then you have to configure it to get it work.

You can choose for downloading a config file (via SMS) and automatically set up your phone (it didn’t work for me, message never arrived); or just go by the instructions and do it manually (very simple as well).

As soon as I got my phone set up, I synchronized with Zyb, and it took seconds in order to upload more than 90 contacts. Also, I did it backwards: I added some contacts via web, and then synched to update my device contacts. Worked perfectly.

I didn’t use the calendar feature, cuz I don’t use it in my phone either, but I think it’s pretty nice done, although I read that it will be nice some integration with GCal.

What it’s nice about this site, is that you can make a back up of your contacts whenever you are. No PC connections, no drivers to install, no cable needed. Just back up with a couple of clicks.

Also, if you have lose your phone (like me, I got mugged), you can transfer your entire database to your new device. Yes!! No lost contacts or manually one-by-one add again!

Impressive. Also, you can export databases for multiple devices, and synch more than 1 handheld.

Que buen sitio, Dios! Lo descubrí el día después de comprarme mi nuevo celular, un Nokia 6131.

Estaba buscando un soft que me ayudara a hacer un BackUp de mis contactos. (Nota: hasta ese momento, yo no tenía el Nokia PC Suite, que hace justamente eso, aunque la copia la hace a una PC, usando un cable de datos, que no viene con el celular).

Así que puse las palabras mágicas en inglés en Google: “web 2.0+mobile+backup contacts” y en 4to o 5to lugar apareció: Zyb.

Zyb es un sitio que te permite hace backups y administrar tus contactos, calendario y eventos también.

Tiene una muy buena Interface de Usuario (con AJAX y todo el web2.0 encima), y es muy fácil setearlo con tu teléfono.

Antes que nada, debés asegurarte que tu aparato sea uno de los más de 200 teléfonos soportados por Zyb (escencialmente debe soportar la sincronización usando el módulo SyncML del teléfono, lo que requiere GPRS o EDGE). Si lo es, lo configurás y listo!

Podés elegir entre bajar un archivo de configuración (via SMS) y configurarlo automáticamente, (a mí no me funcionó; nunca me llegó el mensaje); o seguir las instrucciones y setearlo manualmente (muy simple de todas maneras).

Tan pronto como terminé de setear el teléfono, lo sincronicé con Zyb, y en unos segundos me subió más de 90 contactos. También hice lo opuesto, agregué contactos en el sitio, y los sincronicé para agregarlos al teléfono. Funcionó a la perfección.

No usé la utilidad del calendario, porque tampoco la uso con mi teléfono, pero creo que esta bastante bien lograda, aunque he leído opiniones diciendo que estaría bien alguna integración con GCal.

Lo que me parece resaltable del sitio, es que podés hacer un back up de los contactos, sin importar donde estés. Sin conecciones de PC, drivers para instalar, o cables para conectar. Solamente hacés el back up con un par de clicks.

Además, si llegás a peder tu teléfono (como yo, que me asaltaron), podés transferir toda la base que tenés archivada en el sitio, al nuevo aparato que compres. Si! Ya no más contactos perdidos para siempre, o la tarea de agregar uno por uno los viejos contactos al nuevo aparato!

Impresionante. Además, podés exportar bases para muchos aparatos, y sicnronizar más de un teléfono.
